People leave their homes in Ballymena, Co. Antrim, after two nights of antiimmigration and racially motivated attacks on homes and property. Rioters clashed with police, smashing up and setting fire to houses and cars while targeting minority groups. To try and prevent their homes being attacked residents went onto hang Union flags on their properties along with signs stating ‘Locals Live Here’.

REVIVING, RESTORING, RE-THATCHING

Master thatcher, Richard Ó Loideoin, and his apprentice, Billy, rethatching the O’Neill old family dwelling house, which dates back to the early 1800’s, at Tinnie’s Lower, Valentia Island, Co. Kerry. It is one of the only remaining rope thatched dwelling houses in Ireland. This rare form of thatching uses purple moor grass known locally as ‘Fadac’ - the Fadac is harvested on the north side of the Island.

THE FINAL CROSSING

Patty McMahon spent much of her life connecting her island to the world, working the post office and tending the lighthouse. She was one of the last residents to leave in the 1970’s and now, at 99 years of age, she makes her way home. This final crossing of the Shannon Estuary carries Patty home to Scattery Island, Co. Clare, the place of her birth and her final rest. Surrounded by family and friends, the 'Last Islander' completes the circle, returning to the place she once knew by heart.
