After receiving a diagnosis of appendix cancer my wife Brenda underwent extensive cancer preventive surgery, known as cytoreductive urgery, and HIPEC chemotherapy. Since this procedure is not performed in Northern Ireland we travelled to Basingstoke Hospital in England where the 10-hour surgery was performed. Recent CT scans have been very positive. Brenda is now fully recovered and looking forward to the future.
Every winter solstice the sun alignment sets in Dowth chamber and rises in Newgrange chamber. On the afternoon of the 20th December 2024, an intimate group of people gathered in Dowth to ‘let go of the darkness’. They then carried a flame from the ceremonial fire through the night to Newgrange.
